Some Days Are GOOD!

Especially when one of the young people I know and am connected to on Facebook posts this! (And NO she is not in the military, nor is she a friend of my military son- she worked for me a few years ago.)

PIN DROP
At a time when our president and other politicians tend to
apologize for our country’s prior actions, here’s a refresher on how
some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our
country.
THESE STORIES ARE GOOD REMINDERS OF HOW PROUD AND THANKFUL WE SHOULD ALWAYS BE AS AMERICANS:
JFK’S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60’s when
DeGaule decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaule said he wanted all US
military out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk responded,
“Does that include those who are buried here?”
DeGaule did not respond.
You could have heard a pin drop.

When in England ,
at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the
Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example
of ’empire building’ by George Bush.
He answered by saying,
“Over the years, the United States has sent many of
its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
in return is enough to bury those that did not
return.”You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a conference in France
where a number of international engineers
were taking part, including French and American. During a break,
one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, “Have
you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intend to do, bomb them?”
A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: “Our carriers have three
hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several
thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry
half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to
and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
how many does France have?” You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A U.S. Navy Admiral
was attending a naval conference that included
Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a
large group of officers that included personnel from most of those
countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks
but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn
many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it
that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking French?”
Without hesitating,
the American Admiral replied, “Maybe it’s because the
Brit’s, Canadians, Aussie’s and Americans arranged it so you
wouldn’t have to speak German.”You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE…
Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.”You have been to France before, monsieur?” the customs officer asked sarcastically.Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. “Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.”The American said,
“The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.” “Impossible.
Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France!”
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained, ”Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on
D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single
Frenchmen to show a passport to.” You could have heard a pin drop.
Veteran’s Day
Freedom is NOT FREE! We are The Land of the Free, BECAUSE of the Brave!  Today we remember our veterans. Home or deployed, they fight for our freedoms. Our freedom to express dissenting views, to worship or not as we please, to peaceably assemble. I wish the press would understand and respect that the troops fight for freedom of the press- and that they would respect and use that freedom responsibly by reporting FACTS- all the facts. But that is another post.
As my online friends know my son and daughter in law are active duty military. Daughter in law is currently deployed in Afghanistan. For years and years and years now (has my son really been in 20 yrs? Where did all that time go?) I have made it a habit to include extra in their Christmas boxes if they are deployed. Why? To give to the troops who may not receive a card or package for the holidays. Some have no family to send them anything. Some are young troops whose families may not yet know that holiday mailings to a deployment location overseas have to go out in the priority mail bags by the third week of November at the latest to ensure Christmas delivery. I usually put in a few small things- a card, an extra tin of cookies, some playing cards, a Reader’s Digest or a paperback or two. All wrapped in holiday paper, with a blank tag for “my” troop to fill out for their friend who did not get a package. Silly? I don’t think so.
You can join in and thank a soldier as well. The Red Cross runs a Holiday Mail for Heroes program. Join in won’t you?
The process is very simple and takes no time at all – All you need is a pen and piece of paper to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the U.S. Armed Forces make to protect our freedoms The Holiday Mail for Heroes mail box is open and ready to receive for your cards. Please send all mail to:
Holiday Mail For Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
Sending a “touch of home” to American men and women who serve our country is the perfect way to express your appreciation and support during the holiday season.
Many VFW posts and various churches and civic groups run collection drives for the troops. Great way to support the troops if you can not afford to send a whole package. Most will have wish list items- check it out and lend a hand please! Say thank you to our women and men in the military!
How Starbucks (DIS)respects Our Troops- Updated x 2
FINALLY! A response from the manager! I responded to him and let him know my Daughter in Law has shipped out to Afghanistan and he is to relay all info to me and I will pass it on to her! Thanks to all who have been e-mailing and passing this around! We WILL get action!
Dear xxx,
Thank you for advising me of this situation.  I would like to investigate this further, could you have your daughter-in-law contact me by email, I just need to find out when the visit was (what day and the time of the day) and which Starbucks, we operate three at the airport.  From that information I can find out who the cashier was.  I would also like to send her some coupons she can use in the future.
Thanks for writing,
Steve
My daughter in law has spent the last two months doing a combat skills refresher course in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan. She was fortunate to get a weeks leave to come home and see her family before she heads out to GoatF*&kistan. Her flight home left out of Indianapolis International Airport and the military way is to have everybody at the airport at oh dark thirty. She arrived at the airport and cleared security and wanted a coffee. She had plenty of time before her flight so proceeded to the Starbucks outlet. WHERE-
A Starbucks employee wearing the Muslim required head garb refused to accept her good American cash. “Debit or Credit” seemed to be all she could say. No cash accepted.
NO CASH? Excuse me but does our money not say “Legal Tender for all debts public and private”?
I have some questions. Does this company have the right to refuse American money on American soil?
AND
Was this employee perhaps just disrespecting a person dressed in the uniform of our country’s military?
I have sent an e-mail to Starbucks headquarters. Perhaps you all can help me. Here is the info from the receipt- will you e-mail or call the manager and help correct this injustice?
Starbucks A
Indianapolis International Airport
date of purchase 5/28/2011
(I assume this next is the employees name and I have edited it out- so as not to be sued when they tell me this never happened) Thanks for the tip Uppity!
Manager Steve G Thomas
Phone 317-241-6224 ext 11
His e-mail
SteveG.Thomas@hmshost.com
Hell of a way to start your leave on Memorial Day weekend no? I will NEVER purchase a Starbucks product again.
UPDATE
Well at least Nunly got a reply from the store manager- me? NOT. I e-mailed him as I want to have a record of what he says.
However!
I did get a reply to my e-mail to their corporate customer care center asking for more info. I called and spoke to a person who sounded like a twenty something year old.
He went to great lengths and repeated over and over again that Starbucks does not own that unit.
OK then- it is a franchised unit. As if that excuses the problem?
We went round and round with that- with me asking if that somehow made it ok. He explained that not accepting cash is not a Starbucks policy but they have no control over the franchisee.
OH REALLY?????
At that point I politely lit him up. I let him know I had worked in the restaurant industry all my life- and I understand very well how franchising works. Yes they most certainly do have a degree of control. For example- Starbucks franchisees can not go to the local grocery store and buy generic store brand coffee and pass it off as Starbucks (though in my opinion it might taste better).
I made it very clear that it is STARBUCKS name and reputation on the line and that even franchise employees represent Starbucks.
The young man on the phone told me “the airport” owns the unit. I believe hmshost owns it- and hmshost is an airport food sevice company. Let him go on the internet to figure it out. I already knew that.
Which brings us to the end of the conversation. I let him know that even though I am over the age of thirty I have a Facebook account and know how to use a blog. I let him know there will be a HUGE stink if I do not hear from someone at the corporate level about how this is going to be addressed.
He THEN took all the info I have from the receipt and I expect to be hearing from the district manager within the next 48 hours.
Going up the line now.
I will keep you all posted.
Forced Marriages in The US of A?
Can somebody please explain this? I sure do not get it.
PROMISES, PROMISES: ‘Widows’ tax’ lingers
WASHINGTON – Tens of thousands of the nation’s war widows find it perplexing and downright disrespectful to their late military husbands: In order to fully collect on insurance their husbands bought for them when alive, they must marry another man.
And to qualify, the widows must remarry when they are 57 or older. Those who remarry earlier miss out, as do widows who never remarry.
Am I to understand that if- God Forbid- my son is killed in the line of duty my daughter in law must REMARRY to collect the insurance my son has been paying for these last 18 years? (Or God forbid- my daughter in law is killed when she deploys to Afghanistan this summer would this same rule apply to my son?)
At the heart of the issue is a government policy known as the “widows’ tax.” It says a military spouse whose loved one dies from a service-related cause can’t collect both survivor’s benefits and the full annuity benefits from insurance the couple bought from the Defense Department at retirement. Instead, the amount of the annuity payment is reduced by the amount of the monthly survivor benefit.
Excuse me- but the troops buy the insurance because they know the survivor’s benefits will not be enough to keep the family fed, clothed and housed decently and put the kids through school. (Keeping in mind that if your spouse dies and you are living in military housing- you lose that benefit and have to go get housing in the open market.)
For war widows who were denied the full benefits of their military insurance, the government sought to help by giving them back the premiums their spouses had paid for the policies. But if a widow then remarries at age 57 or older, becoming eligible for the benefit, she can only get it by repaying the insurance premiums the government had refunded to her.
AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH! This is WRONG on so many levels. Service members are limited by their occupation on where they can purchase insurance as most  insurance policies carry those lovely disclaimers that tell you no payment for dying in a war. They are ripping off the troops and the military spouses.
AND- what the hell is that about remarrying? Forcing a war widow(er) to remarry is just plain WRONG! What the hell kind of archaic bull is that? What is this- the friggin Dark Age or the Middle Ages? When women were not allowed control of their bodies, could not own property and had no rights?
I want to e-mail that link to my troops- but they have enough to worry about with a deployment coming up.
I have the world’s best Daughter in Law- I don’t want a new one- and I am sure my son does not want a replacement wife. We won the lottery when we got her- and no amount of money can replace her.
Sometimes I really really hate Congress. They screw up everything they touch.
Fort Hood Hearings and more on Military Voting
Check this out-
FORT HOOD — A soldier testifying in an evidentiary hearing here Friday for Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan said he erased a cell phone video shot during the melee on the orders of his commanders.
Are you having the same WTF moment I had? Good! How can this be? Has this whole country including the military gone totally batshit politically correct crazy? Evidence was erased??????????  Here is another snippet from the same article.
Under cross-examination by John Galligan, the lead defense attorney, Aviles was asked if he had made a video of the shooting from his cell phone. He also was asked if he had deleted the images at the instruction of an officer and an NCO.
“Yes sir,” Aviles replied.
Col. Diane Battaglia, executive officer to Maj. Gen. William Grimsley, Fort Hood’s top commander, said the general hadn’t seen reports filed by military police in the case and was unaware of Aviles erasing video of the shooting from his phone.
I want to know who the hell ordered that video erased AND I want to know what it showed. The troops giving testimony at this hearing ALL agree it was Hasan. Many have testified that he screamed the standard Islamofascist terrorist cheer before opening fire.
WHY was that video erased? What was in that video? And for that matter – why the hell is Hasan still on this planet? Evidentiary hearing? The slaughter occurred when? Let’s get the court-martial over with and line that bastard up in front of the wall and be done with it already.
Next item on my WTF list for this weekend- the disenfranchisement of our troops overseas. If you missed my original rant on this travesty you can check it out here.  Now there is more news on that front.
A little background is necessary I think. Obama was a junior Senator from Illinois. A whack job governor went to trial for trying to sell Obama’s vacated seat. Said seat is now up for grabs- and the Democrats are in trouble all over the place. How embarrassing would it be if the Dims lost that seat? Everybody still with me?  Imagine how NOT stunned I was to see this in the news.
BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP/KMOV) — At least one county in Illinois admits its ballots to military personnel weren’t mailed on time.
That’s as the U.S. Department of Justice is checking on the issue in Illinois and has brought lawsuits in other states.
St. Clair County Clerk Bob Delaney says about 1,100 absentee ballots to military personnel didn’t get mailed by the Sept. 18 deadline. Most of those voters are connected to Scott Air Force Base.
I am beyond disgusted. And by the way- military personnel tend to vote Republican. The troops putting their lives on the line to protect us all don’t get a vote.  But Meanchelda gets a pass when she “electioneers” inside a polling place.
Will the political parties never cease to find ways to disenfranchise voters? Hanging chads,the Supreme Court deciding a Presidential election,  Black Panthers intimidating voters, ACORN registering Mickey Mouse, giving one candidate’s delegates to a fraud and the list just keeps on growing with every election.
Round and round the Mulberry Bush
I saw an article last week about “missing” foreign personnel. Hmmm- I will let you read it
17 Afghan Soldiers Went
AWOL from U.S. Military
Base
American authorities are on the lookout for at least nine Afghan soldiers who remain at large in the United States since deserting a U.S. Air Force base in Texas, where they were stationed to study English.
The soldiers have “all access” credentials for U.S. military facilities,”
Isn’t that just grand? They have “all access” to military bases.  Here is more
Fox News has a better, more detailed article here.
The Afghans were attending the Defense Language Institute at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. The DLI program teaches English to military pilot candidates and other air force prospects from foreign countries allied with the U.S.
“I can confirm that 17 have gone missing from the Defense Language Institute,” said Gary Emery, Chief of Public Affairs, 37th Training Wing, at Lackland AFB. “They disappeared over the course of the last two years, and none in the last three months.”
I am well aware of the joint training “opportunities” afforded our “partners” around the world. Lackland has a HUGE number of the types. These people are really starting to piss me off! do the joint training on their soil- not ours! And that they admit these guys went missing over the course of two years and we knew nothing about it sends my blood pressure through the roof!
Today Pamela left me a tip in the thread below. How;s this get you?
‘Simultaneous incidents’ lead to lockdown at NJ Navy base where Hindenberg exploded in 1937
Lakehurst merged with the Army’s Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base last year as part of a joint base initiative to make the military’s first three-branch base.
We may never know what prompted the lock down. Interesting to me that the base is home to the Naval Air Engineering Center. Any chance these folks have anything to do with engineering a fix for the problem in the Gulf?
Or maybe some of the missing Afghani’s turned up? After all- the Afghan AWOLs were pilots learning English and the article on the shutdown says
one of its main missions relates to the equipment used to launch aircraft from carriers at sea.
Sorry- I don’t believe in coincidents.
Our bases need to be for military personnel ONLY and these missing potential Islamofascist terrorist need to be rounded up ASAP!
