Some Days Are GOOD!

Especially when one of the young people I know and am connected to on Facebook posts this! (And NO she is not in the military, nor is she a friend of my military son- she worked for me a few years ago.)

PIN DROP
At a time when our president and other politicians tend to
apologize for our country’s prior actions, here’s a refresher on how
some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our
country.
THESE STORIES ARE GOOD REMINDERS OF HOW PROUD AND THANKFUL WE SHOULD ALWAYS BE AS AMERICANS:
JFK’S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60’s when
DeGaule decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaule said he wanted all US
military out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk responded,
“Does that include those who are buried here?”
DeGaule did not respond.
You could have heard a pin drop.

When in England ,
at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the
Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example
of ’empire building’ by George Bush.
He answered by saying,
“Over the years, the United States has sent many of
its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
in return is enough to bury those that did not
return.”You could have heard a pin drop.

There was a conference in France
where a number of international engineers
were taking part, including French and American. During a break,
one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, “Have
you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intend to do, bomb them?”

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: “Our carriers have three
hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several
thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry
half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to
and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
how many does France have?” You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A U.S. Navy Admiral
was attending a naval conference that included
Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a
large group of officers that included personnel from most of those
countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks
but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn
many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it
that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking French?”
Without hesitating,
the American Admiral replied, “Maybe it’s because the
Brit’s, Canadians, Aussie’s and Americans arranged it so you
wouldn’t have to speak German.”You could have heard a pin drop.
AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE…
Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.”You have been to France before, monsieur?” the customs officer asked sarcastically.Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. “Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.”The American said,
“The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.” “Impossible.
Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France!”
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained, ”Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on
D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single
Frenchmen to show a passport to.” You could have heard a pin drop.
Veteran’s Day
Freedom is NOT FREE! We are The Land of the Free, BECAUSE of the Brave!  Today we remember our veterans. Home or deployed, they fight for our freedoms. Our freedom to express dissenting views, to worship or not as we please, to peaceably assemble. I wish the press would understand and respect that the troops fight for freedom of the press- and that they would respect and use that freedom responsibly by reporting FACTS- all the facts. But that is another post.
As my online friends know my son and daughter in law are active duty military. Daughter in law is currently deployed in Afghanistan. For years and years and years now (has my son really been in 20 yrs? Where did all that time go?) I have made it a habit to include extra in their Christmas boxes if they are deployed. Why? To give to the troops who may not receive a card or package for the holidays. Some have no family to send them anything. Some are young troops whose families may not yet know that holiday mailings to a deployment location overseas have to go out in the priority mail bags by the third week of November at the latest to ensure Christmas delivery. I usually put in a few small things- a card, an extra tin of cookies, some playing cards, a Reader’s Digest or a paperback or two. All wrapped in holiday paper, with a blank tag for “my” troop to fill out for their friend who did not get a package. Silly? I don’t think so.
You can join in and thank a soldier as well. The Red Cross runs a Holiday Mail for Heroes program. Join in won’t you?
The process is very simple and takes no time at all – All you need is a pen and piece of paper to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the U.S. Armed Forces make to protect our freedoms The Holiday Mail for Heroes mail box is open and ready to receive for your cards. Please send all mail to:
Holiday Mail For Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
Sending a “touch of home” to American men and women who serve our country is the perfect way to express your appreciation and support during the holiday season.
Many VFW posts and various churches and civic groups run collection drives for the troops. Great way to support the troops if you can not afford to send a whole package. Most will have wish list items- check it out and lend a hand please! Say thank you to our women and men in the military!
Is Nothing Sacred anymore?
Imagine this- as the mother of an active duty military member and his active duty wife- this is something I have imagined on more than one occasion- can you see the pain? Can you imagine???
Then, if you can, imagine the horror every parent of every soldier felt on hearing this-
Chaos at Arlington Cemetery: Mismarked graves, dumping of urns
Army investigators at Arlington National Cemetery have found more than 100 unmarked graves, scores of grave sites with headstones that are not recorded on cemetery maps, and at least four burial urns that had been unearthed and dumped in an area where excess grave dirt is kept.
The investigators found that these and other blunders were the result of a “dysfunctional” and chaotic management system at the cemetery, which was poisoned by bitterness among top supervisors and hobbled by antiquated record-keeping.
I am weeping as I type this- for the fallen and their families and for our country that has become so callous that a “dysfunctional management system” has caused so much distress to families who have given their all.
On behalf of my country I apologize to those families. Nothing can replace your loved ones and I, for one, appreciate your sacrifice. No words of mine can erase the horror you are going through, but perhaps you will feel some comfort knowing that this proud military mom is praying for you and yours. God Bless You and thank you!
I just got this link from mcnorman- and i truly hope there is a special HELL for the assholes that cause this kind of pain for military families. Everlasting fire just is not punishment enough.
Father Driven To Pick Through His Son’s Remains (Just imagine the horror)
You absolutely MUST go and read what the officials at Arlington do to our  fallen hero’s families.
A special hell- just for those who disrespect our troops and their families. May God DAMN them to eternal hell.
Thank You Lance Cpl Matthew Snyder!
I always say if you like your freedom- thank a soldier and his mom. In this case it is the soldier’s dad -Albert Snyder.
For those of you who may have missed it a group of kooks from Kansas calling themselves christians led by their head loon – some idiot named Phelps- go around picketing at the funerals of fallen heroes. After this group of lunatics disrupted his son’s funeral Mr Snyder sued and won. Get the story here. The Kansas kooks naturally appealed and found some idiot bench warmer who agreed with them and wants Mr. Snyder to PAY THE LOONS! (Said judge needs to go to the lunatic asylum) Needless to say Mr. Snyder is not paying until ordered to do so by the Supreme Court which has agreed to hear the case.
Now I know lots of folks think Bill O’Reilly is a FOX News loon- however, he is doing the right thing here- he has offered to pay the bill for Mr. Phelps.
and in Tuesday’s edition of his show, “The O’Reilly Factor,” the cable host announced that he would gladly pay Snyder’s debt. “I am not going to let this injustice stand,” O’Reilly declared. “It’s obvious [the Westboro protesters] were disturbing the peace by disrupting the funeral. They should have been arrested, but our system is so screwed up … that the loons are allowed to run wild.”
Good on you Mr. O’Reilly! I agree- our system has gone insane. Why were these assholes not arrested for disturbing the peace at least?
Hey assholes from Kansas- guess who protects your freedom to assemble? Your freedom of speech? That’s right- SOLDIERS you idiots! Sorry- I refuse to print the name of their organization in my blog. If you wish to know who they are so you can write to them I am sure you can find the address on the web.
God Bless America and God Bless Lance Cpl Snyder
Here is Government run health care!
How quickly we forget. We have a system of government-run health care already up and running in this country. And it, for the most part, sucks. Remember back in 2007 the exposes of Walter Reed Hospital where the government administers health care to our heroes? Need a refresher?
Soldiers Face Neglect, Frustration At Army’s Top Medical Facility
Behind the door of Army Spec. Jeremy Duncan’s room, part of the wall is torn and hangs in the air, weighted down with black mold. When the wounded combat engineer stands in his shower and looks up, he can see the bathtub on the floor above through a rotted hole. The entire building, constructed between the world wars, often smells like greasy carry-out. Signs of neglect are everywhere: mouse droppings, belly-up cockroaches, stained carpets, cheap mattresses.
Do you think it got fixed after the 2007 expose and all the “hearings?”
Pentagon limits law’s pledge to its wounded veterans
Veterans groups hailed the passage last year of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which made it easier for wounded soldiers to have their injuries rated and treated by the federal government.
But less than a year after President Bush signed the bill, the Defense Department interpreted the law in a way that reduced its scope and denied many veterans the benefits they thought they had been promised.
{snip}
But Congress did not explicitly include in the bill a definition of combat-related operations, leaving it to the Pentagon to make that determination. The result was Mr. Chu’s first memo, issued in March 2008.
Once again- non physicians making decisions. Similar to the 2000+ page bill the government is trying to force down our throats wherein the Secretary of Health and Human Services will have broad authority to define various aspects of the law.
And lest we think that all are equal, the military is just as backwards regarding care of female soldiers.
Female Veterans Fight for Healthcare
The VA starts to adjust a system designed for a male military
A Government
Accountability Office report released this month found that two of 19 facilities audited did not offer even basic gender-specific services like cervical cancer screenings, and none fully complied with the VA’s policy on privacy for female veterans. Overall, “none of the facilities had fully implemented VA policies pertaining to women veterans’ healthcare,” the report said.
Time after time we have seen the news articles and stories on the fights our veterans go through to get the care they deserve. The pitifully poor conditions at the VA facilities. The trauma of the soldiers and their families as they go through months and months trying to negotiate the paperwork and processing to get treatment.
Now- are you SURE you want government-run health care???
