Being the curious minded person that I am caused me to visit Mrs. Obama’s Let’s Move website. Her mission seems a good one doesn’t it?

Obesity threatens the healthy future of one third of all American children. Obesity rates have tripled in the past 30 years.
We spend $150 billion every year to treat obesity-related conditions, and that number is growing. For the first time in American history, our children’s life expectancy may be shorter than their parents’.
We need to get moving.
Let’s Move! has an ambitious but important goal: to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation.
Let’s Move will give parents the support they need, provide healthier food in schools, help our kids to be more physically active, and make healthy, affordable food available in every part of our country.
Cynic that I have become since the 2008 theft by her husband of the nomination I can not help but question the motives here. Food after all is one of our basic needs along with water and shelter. Being laid up with a torn disc gives me lots and lots of thinking time. Consider this-
Food is one of the first and most basic forms of wealth, as are water and shelter. At the dawn of civilization, the ability to control access to the best living sites, the best hunting grounds, the best water empowered a tribe. What could be more desirable than controlling the a reliable food and water supply, near defensible shelter?
Used to be that we Americans were pretty independent- providing for ourselves and our families while coming together to help one another in times of crisis. But let’s look and see what is happening now. More and more people are becoming dependent on the government for everything! For clean water supply (think chlorinated water and fluoride) for housing (section 8 anyone?) most recently for health care. Can we tie Mrs. Obama’s seemingly caring initiative into the desire of the useless elites to create a permanent underclass of serfs?
How does one criticize a program that wants to “help” poor people? Hard to do without being shouted down. How did we go from this
So, the government turned to its citizens and encouraged them to plant “Victory Gardens.” They wanted individuals to provide their own fruits and vegetables. Nearly 20 million Americans answered the call. They planted gardens in backyards, empty lots and even city rooftops. Neighbors pooled their resources, planted different kinds of foods and formed cooperatives, all in the name of patriotism.
Farm families, of course, had been planting gardens and preserving produce for generations. Now, their urban cousins got into the act. All in the name of patriotism.
to a proposal “to bring grocery stores to underserved areas and help places such as convenience stores and bodegas carry healthier food options.”
What? The food stamp program didn’t give the government enough control over what and how much people eat? Remember Mrs. Obama planting a garden on the White House lawn? Where in her Let’s Move proposal are the Victory Gardens? It would seem to make sense- at least to me. Get families out MOVING and growing at least SOME of their own food. Gosh what a concept! Exercise, fresh air, healthy food, clean up some of the nasty vacant lots in the inner cities- maybe even plant an apple tree or two in the city parks! So why not?
My favorite blogger Uppity Woman has written numerous times on companies like Monsanto. You can go here and here for an Uppity Woman crash course on how Monsanto and other chemical companies like them want to patent some of our most basic foods. Search around on her site for articles on Salmonella, e-coli and factory farming. All the while keeping in mind that these chemical companies and factory farms are big players contributors to the useless overlords in DC. No way do those big political buyers donors want little people growing their own food! We might find heirloom seeds and figure out you don’t need chemicals to keep the bugs off your plants! Cuts down on the profit you know. Take a look at this Uppity Woman post and click on the links. They want control of the whole food supply folks.
Perhaps the biggest reason the government doesn’t encourage Victory Gardens is it creates a sense of independence. A sense of being able to take care of oneself and one’s family. In other words- it would go a little way towards breaking the citizens dependence on big government. Can’t have any of that now can we? What would the career politicians do if the serfs citizens figured out we didn’t really need them?
Lastly – where is this food going to come from that is going to be stocked in the grocery stores and bodegas? A little redistribution of wealth perhaps? You think not? They have it all mapped out– where the food is and where they want it to go.
Control the water, the shelter, medical care and the food- and you control the wealth. Where does it stop?
