Personal Income Drops? Really?

And we needed somebody to tell us?

Personal income in 42 states fell in 2009, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

I think most of us had that figured out- but thanks for the confirmation.

An interesting thing in that article- check out the interactive map. You can see state by state numbers.  There is a link to another  Wall Street Journal article –

Overview 2009: Income,

Population, Jobs and Home Prices

by State

Overall U.S. per capita income dropped 2.6% to about $31,000. Connecticut, home to many of the titans of finance, continued to be the state with the highest per capita income in the nation at $54,000, but it was in the top 10 in terms of declines from 2008 with a 3.3% drop. Wyoming had the largest personal income drop in the country at 5.9%. Only four states posted gains in per capita personal income with West Virginia coming out on top with a 1.8% increase, though it has seventh lowest level in the nation.

Wow- where would we be without the “news” to tell us we are all going broke?

I published this and went out to physical therapy and when I came back there was a comment in the spam filter. An ad for a payday loan thing! If it wasn’t so pitiful I would laugh!

How to Gauge Your Middle-Class Status

Despite the so-called recovery, many families continue to struggle, with income and other living standards slipping below thresholds that typically represent middle-class quality of life. We’ve assembled a variety of metrics to help determine whether you’re getting ahead, holding steady, or slipping further than most.

And I also found this-

7 Stressors Sapping the Middle Class

We all know about keeping up with the Joneses. Now, the Great Recession and the jobless recovery have introduced a new socioeconomic phenomenon: slip-sliding with the Smiths.

Working harder for less is the new normal–for those lucky enough to have a job. Millions of families are giving up comforts they long took for granted, such as restaurant meals, new clothes, vacations, spacious cars, home improvements, and cable television. College funds and retirement savings have taken a hit, and some families have been forced to downsize their homes or, worse, submit to foreclosure. Little wonder that record numbers of Americans tell pollsters it’s getting harder to get ahead and that they worry their kids’ standard of living may fall rather than rise.

Thanks- I needed to hear that.

What the hell? Is this the new meme to be spread around to the masses? Trying to get us used to the idea that soon there will BE NO middle class?

They don’t need to tell most of us- we already know- we are living it.

  1. I know our income dropped because my husband was hit with three forced unpaid furloughs. And to make it even more fun, after the first furlough they realized that employees were able to file for unemployment for the time off without pay so they found a loophole and fixed it so they had to come to work but just wouldn’t get paid for it. Yup, it’s legal.

The real pisser is, the company my husband works for was making money hand over fist, but it was bought by Honeywell who was hurting. They just keep skimming the profits from them so they could keep Honeywell afloat…and their bean-counters all got a great big bonus in December for their hard work of stealing money from their employees.

Just this year, they lost 15 of their top scientists who retired early because Honeywell said that after last September, retirees would no longer be eligible for health insurance. They figured it was worth it to retire a few years early because they weren’t getting paid enough…or in the case of the forced furlough’s, at all, for their work.

Welcome to the new America, ala Obama.

  2. Nunly- I am so sorry! My husband and I have worked like dogs all our lives- mostly in restaurants and nightclubs. Just poor working slobs- but we USED to be able to make a decent living at it.
    No longer-
Thanks for nothing to ALL the politicians!

  3. Income for the vast majority of America is down? No kidding!

But wait a minute. Didn’t Peggy Joseph say The Won was gonna pay for her mortgage and gas and…..

    Where’s mine/ours????????

    • You’re the wrong color crier. Peggy the Moocher is the right color.

      • Is that racist?

      • And you probably do not live in an underserved area either TC-

I happened to run into a friend’s son yesterday- all grown up now. He has taken a job with the census out here in bitter hicksville (Phew! thank goodness- I know he is not ACORN nor a bot)
Remember I told you our county went for Hillary, then McCain? And I was joking they were not going to count us?
Turns out I am not the only one who has not received a census form! (and I live on the main drag mind you- 2 lanes each way)
But some of the hunting camps are getting them! ROFLMAO!!!!!
Anyway he told me folks who don’t get one have to meet him at the library to get one- that is where I ran into the kid- and he had just given out the last of his supply. Seems that is what his job is- sit at the library and give forms to folks who did not get one in the mail- Also ROFLMAO!!! He is apparently doing a very brisk business- He was expecting another batch of forms to arrive today—

Funny, the folks in the “city” where the library is- and Allegheny College- all seem to have received their forms- and certain precincts in that city went for- you guessed it- Oblahblah

I am laughing- but it really isn’t funny

        • Sorry to hear the census does not value your address sufficiently to bestow one of their crummy forms upon you. It sounds either like they don’t care to count you, or they don’t care to do their jobs. Your job is to bug them until they pony up the form. Do not waste the opportunity to be counted, as representation of your area is important.

        • I will make sure we get counted- I want to put my race as mixed northern European!

        • I honestly wanted to use “mongrel” in that slot.

  4. You reap what you sow, goes the saying.

No longer. In America now, the socialism idea of redistributing wealth is in vogue, for thugs.

    • My dad had a bumper sticker-
“Get revenge on your kids- spend it ALL!”

Not a bad idea right now! Don’t leave them anything to redistribute!

      • At the rate we are going, that may just be the way to go. Nowadays, it probably behooves folks to dole it out carefully to them before we all ascend to the next heavenly dimension. Estate taxes are insane.

        • My Mom has been giving stuff to us for a long time- she apparently had a tractor trailer full of photos stashed someplace- we all got boxes of them at Christmas 2 years ago- we spend a LOT of time trying to figure out who half the people are- maddening but fun, though I wonder who the hell some of these people are!

  5. Remember when BHO the Socialist got caught admitting his redristribution of the wealth scheme?

    • I remember this! And Wright and Rezko and his finger flipping tricks-
Joe the plumber- hope he enjoys what little he had cuz I am sure he is near the top of the shit list.
the Republicans IMHO threw the fight in this one. Had they REALLY pushed and used Wright, Ayers, Rezko, Alsammare, Khalidi etc etc etc in ads- oblah and his gang of thieves would have been sent back to Chicago licking their wounds.

I doubt we will ever be able to prove it or to know why. Would it have pissed off some minority groups? Well so what if it did? I thought MLK said content of character? BO was elected because of the color of his skin- and for no other reason.

      • Content of charcter. Yup. That’s a good one. Just like birds of the same feather, flock together. Had anyone really used these to sum up The One who always used to like to vote “Present,” that would have eliminated his candidacy very early in the primaries, thereby erasing his thuggery that reins today.

  6. o/t: Check out this picture of O:

He looks bedraggled from head to foot. Think it’s something periodic? Could he be concerned about Kotax?

    • Try this link
      http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/top/all/6932468.html

And yes- I agree he looks like he needs some Midol- can he afford the Kotax?

    • Your link is missing the . after www
If you want an easier way- just right click in the browser address bar on the page you want to link to, click copy and it will pull the whole address for you. Then when you get to where you want to leave the link, right click again and paste.
That will leave the complete link for you- http included! 🙂

      • PMM, I’m reluctant to post a working link. Glad you perservered.
Midol. LOL. What do you suppose would happen to us if we sent him some?

  7. All seniors’ personal income, if you can call it that – and I do, dropped with the turn of the calendar to 2010. SS down (no COLA, suppose Medicare went up as usual – too busy defending personal liberty to have noticed); pension check down (higher withholding).

  8. I still haven’t filled out our census forms. I could really have a good time with them, though.

So…what happens if I don’t send them in? Will they send that Pelosi frozen face to my house to scare me into submission?

    • A census worker will show up at your door to pester you.

Frozen face will stay within the comforts of her palace and jettison around the country on our tax dollars, peddling The Won’s agenda.

  9. mcnorman- LOL! Good idea. I wonder what would happen if I put my race down as “pretty fast”.

  10. Under race, consider writing in , “I Won.”

  11. Yes, I am sure the government’s cost used to determine that personal income fell in 42 states was large as well.

  12. Hi proudmilitary mom! When I was looking to see if I could find the name of that “bleach” song I was talking to you about the other day, I found this blog and thought of you. Maybe you’d be interested in checking it out.

Here ya go, it’s The Catholic Liturgical Musician
